"For many years I have been a conscientious attendee at the local gym and have tried to maintain proper nutrition guidelines. I have wondered if this regime has done more to make me feel virtuous than to actually keep me physically fit. Several months ago I was diagnosed with a meningioma, a benign brain tumor. Surgery was scheduled and my recuperation has gone flawlessly. Recovery was expedited by the good shape I was in and now I no longer wonder if all those workouts were worthwhile. My roommate in the hospital, who is a younger woman, had a much more difficult time getting up, moving around and keeping her balance while walking. I am so grateful that I unknowingly had prepared for this problem long before I knew it would develop."
